A & P Mechanic

Job Summary:

Responsible for inspections, repairs, modifications, periodic maintenance, servicing and cleaning of aircraft.  Responsible for performing these tasks within the limits of the employee’s Federal Aviation Association (FAA) Airframe & Power Plant (A&P) certificate or other certifications, this classification may also inspect and certify work accomplished on assigned aircraft and their components by performing the following duties.

Summary of essential job functions:

Performs and documents periodic maintenance of assigned aircraft and components according to manufacturer's instructions, service bulletins, and FAA directives.

Diagnoses problems and removes, replaces, and repairs aircraft components within limits of the A&P Certificate.

Performs or assists aircrews in performing, pre-/thru-/post-flight inspections and servicing of assigned aircraft.

Coordinates aircraft inspections/maintenance/servicing with Director of Maintenance to assure maximum availability of aircraft.

Coordinates contractor/vendor inspections, repairs, modifications, and certifications of aircraft and component parts which cannot be accomplished in-house.

Modifies aircraft and component parts according to manufacturer's instructions, FAA directives, and industry practices if within authority of current certifications.

Tows, pushes, or pulls aircraft using manual and mechanical means.

Maintains all tools, equipment, and required publications, technical data, and related materials.

Complies with all directives and administrative requirements of the FAA and State and Federal regulatory agencies applicable to assigned duties to include record-keeping.

Maintains inventories and orders stock of essential spare parts, supplies, and related materials.

Calibrates, or coordinates calibration of special purpose tools, gauges, and equipment according to manufacturer's or FAA requirements.

Maintains security and confidentially of information created or encountered in the performance of assigned duties.

Completes work orders to include documentation of all parts used/removed from inventory for the purposes of inventory management, accounting, and billing.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, inventory software, internet software, order processing systems, and database software.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years related experience and/or training; and three years’ experience as certified FAA A&P mechanic performing aircraft inspection, maintenance, repair, and servicing; or manufacturers training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and Licenses:

• FAA A&P certificate
• FAA aircraft inspector or manufacturer’s certification
• Valid driver’s license

 Equipment:

• Common and specialized tools
• Equipment involved in the inspections, servicing, repair, and modification of aircraft and component parts and systems

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

• Knowledge of FAA and aircraft/component manufacturer's standards, rules, and regulations for servicing, repair, maintenance, and modification
• Ability to meet the documentation and reporting requirement of maintenance activities for FAA
• Knowledge of industry and trade standard practices and techniques for aircraft/system/component servicing, inspection, repair, modification, and maintenance
• Knowledge of proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials to include but not limited to solvents, fuels, lubricants, plastics, and insulation materials encountered in duties
• Ability to inspect, repair, service, and modify assigned aircraft and component parts and systems
• Ability to interpret complex blueprints, sketches, schematics, and other technical materials from manufacturers and the FAA
• Ability to use, care, and maintain personal protective equipment
• Ability to maintain work areas in clean, safe condition, including storage, handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
